Getting started: your first link

A shownote link is one URL you put in your show notes. When someone clicks it, they land on a choice page listing every store you sell that product through — and each store button carries your affiliate tag.

Create the link

  1. In your studio, go to Links and choose New link.
  2. Paste the product URL into the scraper box. shownote pulls the title and cover image so you don't have to type them.
  3. Check the slug — this is the last part of the public URL, so keep it short and readable. the-hobbit beats the-hobbit-review-2026.
  4. Add a destination for each store that carries the product.
  5. Save.

Start from an ISBN instead

For books, you don't have to hunt down a URL at every store. On the New link page, switch the tabs above the box from Paste product URL to Enter ISBN, type the ISBN, and choose Generate links.

shownote fills in a destination for every book retailer you've already set up under Stores — Amazon, Bookshop.org, Barnes & Noble, and Libro.fm — along with the title, slug, and cover image. Other stores in your list are left alone; an ISBN only describes a book.

Either format works. The 10-digit and 13-digit ISBNs for a book are interchangeable here, so use whichever is on the copyright page.

Three things worth knowing before you save:

  • Libro.fm links land on a search page, not a specific audiobook. Audiobook editions carry their own ISBN, so a print ISBN can't address them directly. If you want the exact audiobook, paste its Libro.fm URL over the generated one.
  • Some newer books get an Amazon search page instead of a product page. That happens with ISBNs starting 979, which have no 10-digit equivalent for Amazon's product URLs.
  • A missing title or cover isn't a failure. Very new and self-published books often aren't in the book databases yet. You'll get a note saying so, the store destinations are still created, and you can type the title and paste a cover image URL yourself.

Everything the ISBN filled in is an ordinary form field. Edit any of it before you save.

Share it

Your link is live at https://<your-studio>.shwn.to/<slug>. That URL never changes, so you can put it in a video description on day one and still edit where it points a year later.

What happens when there's only one store

If a link has exactly one destination, shownote skips the choice page and redirects straight through, affiliate tag applied. You get the same tracking without making a viewer click twice.
